After the market’s 16th outdoor season, which it calls the most successful yet, The Record traced the market’s history. The paper says the market began in summer 2000 as an initiative of the Regional Farm and Food Project and Matt and Amy Lindstrom, with Amy Lindstrom as the first market manager, in the Hedley Park Place parking lot. The indoor market opened in the Troy Atrium in the winter of 2002–2003 with eight vendors and now has more than 75. The outdoor market moved to Riverfront Park in 2009 and then to River Street in 2012, a spot meant to be temporary that became its home by Monument Square. Summer vendors grew from 45 in 2009 to 80.

“Our vendors are all producer-only so the money cycles itself within the region.”

— Monica Kurzejeski, market manager, to The Record
