All Over Albany reported that the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market had withdrawn from the planned 1 Monument Square development, where it was to have had a permanent indoor home in the street-level retail space. In a statement, board chair Seth Jacobs said changes to the project had shrunk the market’s footprint while raising its cost. The post noted that the market’s planned space had shrunk from 20,000 to 17,500 to 9,872 square feet as the project changed, and that developer Joseph Kirchhoff also issued a statement. The project faced organized opposition from a group called We Care About the Square, which argued the plan differed too much from the original proposal and threatened to sue if it wasn’t re-bid, and a Troy IDA vote on an $11.7 million aid package was postponed.
“Changes to the scope of the One Monument Square project greatly reduced the footprint the Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market would have occupied while increasing the cost to the market, and it has become clear the available space would not allow us to offer the ideal experience to customers, nor to our vendors.”
— Seth Jacobs, board chair, in All Over Albany
