In a Q&A, All Over Albany talked with Liz Hammond, the new manager of the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market, as it opened its 17th season. Hammond said the market had 86 vendors going into the summer, four of them incubator businesses that attend every other week, and that its bylaws cap it at 100 vendors, so the focus was on fine-tuning programs rather than constant growth. She described downtown Troy as a food desert and said the market accepts EBT/SNAP and brings 6,000 to 8,000 people downtown every week. She also talked about the strong bonds between shoppers and producers, and noted the market would move to Riverfront Park in late July for the rest of the summer because of sidewalk and roadway construction downtown.

“So people do feel very strong connections to their farmers, and bakers, and cheese makers, and soap makers.”

— Liz Hammond, market manager, in All Over Albany
