In a letter to the editor of the Schenectady paper, Tracy Frisch, executive director of the Regional Farm & Food Project, answered a May 9 Gazette editorial about improving the Schenectady farmers’ market by inviting readers to the new Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market, which she had helped launch. It opened May 20, 2000, with close to 20 farmers and other vendors, and ran every Saturday, rain or shine, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October, on River Street along the Hudson between the Green Island and Collar City bridges, a block north of the Troy Pub and Brewery. She listed organic and conventionally grown plants and vegetables, all-natural pork, lamb and goat meat, breads made with freshly ground flour, and crafts, and previewed June’s acoustic music, baby farm animal day, organic gardening clinic, meet-the-brewer day with brewery tours, and a strawberry festival.
“Vendors may only sell items they themselves grew or made!”
