Heidi Legenbauer’s full-page Food section feature visited the market at 433 River St., between the Troy Pub & Brewery and Hedley Park Place. Board member Jennifer Krausnick explained that the market is producer-only, and manager Amy Halloran described the appeal of buying from growers (“It makes eating a salad a joy”). Market president Matthew Lindstrom, an assistant professor of political science and environmental studies at Siena College, said there were more than 20 vendors each weekend, with music at 10:30 a.m. and chef demonstrations at 11, and previewed that Saturday’s Summer Fest. Lindstrom said the idea behind the market, sponsored by the Regional Farm and Food Project of Albany, was threefold: to let farmers market their products directly, to educate the public about local products, and to establish a community gathering place. He also credited Tom Carroll of the Hudson-Mohawk Industrial Gateway and Joan Warrender, formerly of the RiverSpark Visitor Center, with attracting the market to Troy. The page included recipes from market vendors and photos by Tom Killips of Jonathan Clement of Berry Patch Farm in West Sand Lake and Isaac Lindstrom, 6, of Latham at the Saratoga Apple stand.

“We wanted a place where farmers could directly market their products, we wanted to educate the public about local products [which would in turn contribute to the thriving rural landscape], and we wanted to establish a community gathering place, too.”

— Matthew Lindstrom, in The Record
