The market was competing in the American Farmland Trust and Farmers Market Coalition’s 14th annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration, a public vote. As of the Sunday before publication, Troy ranked third in New York, sixth in the Northeast and 14th in the nation. Voting ran until Sept. 19, with $10,000 in prizes for the top five markets nationally.
The story described the market as an open-air street festival drawing up to 15,000 people on its busiest Saturdays. Its quote from Market Manager Steve Ridler came from a statement issued before the market returned to Monument Square that May.
“We have one of the best urban settings of any farmers market in the country.”
— Market Manager Steve Ridler, in a May 2022 statement quoted by Spotlight News
