The Regional News cover story looked at Schenectady’s struggle to bring a grocery store back to Hamilton Hill and other inner-city neighborhoods (Price Chopper had recently closed its Watt Street store in Schenectady and its Hoosick Street store in Troy). On the jump page, the paper noted that Troy residents had a seasonal alternative at the Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market, and quoted the market’s board president on why it chose its River Street site.
“One advantage Troy residents have at this time of year is that they can buy fresh produce and food products at the Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market, which has between 25 and 35 vendors. The market, located at 433 River St., is open between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturdays.”
“We received tremendous support from community groups and the city of Troy,” said Matthew Lindstrom, president of the Troy farmers’ market board, of the decision to locate the market there two years ago. “We felt as though there was this groundswell of support.”
