Responding to Dina Cappiello’s article “Some reap what others sow,” Matt Lindstrom of Latham argued that coverage of farmers’ markets should emphasize their benefits to communities, consumers and growers rather than questions of regulation. He wrote that “beginning this past May, a grass-roots group of people helped launch the Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market located at 433 River St. every Saturday until the end of October,” and described the market as a place that brings people together across backgrounds, supports local growers and offers organic and locally made products as a healthy alternative to supermarket produce shipped more than 1,000 miles.

“Anyone who has experienced an exciting farmers’ market knows that it is more than just buying locally grown food.”
