The Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market held a non-perishable food drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Hope 7 Food Pantry, which had been emptied by Thanksgiving. The market had been collecting produce and bread from its vendors for the pantry since August; manager Monica Kurzejeski said some produce and bread vendors gave what was left at the end of the day. John Decirce, an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer with Hope 7, said the pantry had already spent 75 percent of its food budget as the number of households it served rose 30 percent.
“It’s a nice little thing we can do for them and they have the benefit of having fresh and local food, too.”
