The story reported that the 1 Monument Square project was being redesigned again as architects, business owners and residents questioned whether the proposed redevelopment was right for the city. The Times Union listed the issues raised at a Planning Commission meeting — including the design and appearance of the mixed-use building, the inclusion of the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market in the structure, the use of public funds, the lack of a public parking garage and the closing of Front Street. RPI architecture dean Evan Douglas was quoted calling the earlier proposal “not worthy of Troy,” and the developers said they had directed their architect to develop new plans. The market is named as one planned component of the building under debate, not as the focus of the story.

“It’s Troy’s building. It needs to look like it belongs in Troy.”

— Jeff Kane of Kirchhoff, in the Times Union
