A midseason crop report in the Times Union’s Business section found Capital Region farmers generally pleased, even though heavy rains had drowned root vegetables, made hay hard to harvest and, in one case, forced a farmer to replant his carrots, and some spots had hail damage. At the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market, then held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays along River Street, market manager Monica Kurzejeski said some growers were already bringing in “really early apples” and that corn had come in early too, with one mid-Hudson Valley farmer selling it for weeks. Most of the story focused on Brunswick farmer Ed Engel of Engel’s Acres and on the New York Farm Bureau’s outlook.

“It’s been great.”

— Monica Kurzejeski, market manager, on the season so far, in the Times Union
