In the paper’s annual farm guide, Robert Cristo wrote that for seven years the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market had been bringing more than 50 farmers, specialty food producers, bakers and artisans to shoppers every Saturday, near the Troy Dock and Marina in the warmer months and in the Troy Atrium in winter. Jonathon Clement, who helped start the market in 2000 and grows produce in West Sand Lake, said it had grown from about 20 vendors to more than 60, including two wineries, three cheese makers and five meat producers. The story also profiled Rensselaer County farmer Herb Krug of Brookside Farm, credited as one of the inspirations behind the market, on the hard economics of small farming.

“People want fresh food that’s produced locally … they want to be dealing directly with growers and that’s what we offer.”

— Jonathon Clement, in The Record
