This front-page story profiled Bill and Judy Beckman of Willow Wood Farms in Mechanicville, who planned to raise 1,000 all-natural chickens that summer and would be giving out samples at the Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market, “which kicks off Saturday.” (The chickens themselves were sold only at the farm.) The Beckmans also grew vegetables in a greenhouse heated by Windo-Therm, which would be available at the third annual market. The continuation reported the market had nearly 40 other vendors on its preliminary list and would be held at 433 River St. every Saturday until Nov. 23. Matt Lindstrom, president of the market’s board of directors, said 10 new vendors were joining and current vendors were expanding. Photos by Mike McMahon.
“People have become disconnected to the source of their food. They expect food to come wrapped in plastic three or four times. With the farmers’ market, you get a better appreciation of where your food is coming from.”
