Food writer Annette Nielsen visited the Troy Winter Farmers’ Market in its first year, a continuation of the Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market and, she wrote, the only cold-weather farmers’ market in the region. She profiled Slack Hollow Farm’s Seth Jacobs and Martha Johnson, who grew winter spinach in an unheated greenhouse in Argyle, and described Glen Glade Farm’s hydroponic lettuces, Donna Mullen’s lamb and wool, cooking demonstrations by Chef Nicole of Fox 23, and the cheeses, meats, maple products and baked goods of the market’s 35 winter vendors. The market ran Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., November through April, in the Atrium on Broadway in Troy.
“We have a great core of vendors committed to this winter market concept.”
— Donna Mullen, market vendor, in The Saratogian
