The Times Union reported that the Regional Farm & Food Project, sponsor of the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market, would open its first Winter Farmers Market on Nov. 30, 2002, running Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Atrium in downtown Troy, a week after the waterfront market closed for the season; vendors would return outdoors in spring. Volunteer Amy Braig-Lindstrom said the winter market would offer honey, syrups, poultry, eggs, lamb, emu, baked goods and crafts, and that she hoped the markets would draw shoppers into downtown businesses too. She noted that volunteer involvement might be limited in the cold months, that the winter market depended on volunteers and goodwill, and that she hoped to start a Friends of the Farmers Market group.
“The waterfront market has one part-time person, but the winter market was born out of good will and volunteer efforts.”
— Amy Braig-Lindstrom, market volunteer, in the Times Union
