Nippertown visited the market the Saturday after it won the American Farmland Trust’s People’s Choice award as the top farmers market in the country. (The story calls the group the “National Farmland Trust.”) Market Manager Steve Ridler called the win the culmination of 20 years of work by vendors and the community, and said that when the market moved into the Troy Atrium at the end of October, many vendors would follow but the crowds would shrink.

The story reported that the market had grown from about 20 vendors in 2000 to more than 100, drew over 14,000 people a week, and had added a smaller Wednesday market on Broadway. It described the scene around Monument Square and River and Third streets, noted that dogs were welcome outdoors but only service animals indoors, and said there was “a lot of talk” about moving the market indoors in the future. “From the Troy Market perspective, this is the culmination of 20 years of hard work.”
