The Times Union marked the start of the market’s 2018 outdoor season on River Street with a photo of Andrew Ashley of New York City and his nephew, James Ashley of Loudonville, sampling roasted crickets from Mike Gordon’s booth on opening Saturday. The caption noted the market would be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, May through October, at Monument Square. The paper’s online photo gallery added that the market had spread farther that year, onto Broadway and Second and Lower River streets. A week later, the paper’s Sunday “Through Our Lens” photo roundup ran another D’Annibale photo from that opening day, of a packed River Street on May 5.
