In a Q&A, the Times Union’s Steve Barnes talked with Liz Hammond, appointed TWFM manager in May 2016, about the market’s strong start to the outdoor season (about 8,000 shoppers and 86 vendors on opening day), its incubator vendors and its bylaw cap of 100 vendors. Barnes also put criticisms to her: that merchants farther down River Street felt left out (she said she hadn’t heard that directly and invited discussion), that there are as many vendors of soap and crackers as of produce and meat (“Yes, in a way”), and that market prices can be high, citing an $18 whole chicken; Hammond said produce is often comparable to supermarket prices while meat is “definitely more expensive.”

“I feel producers of quality products should be paid for those products.”
