In an item in his “Notes on Napkins” food column, William M. Dowd reported that the first-year Troy Waterfront Farmers Market, where 20 vendors sold food, plants and more every Saturday, was persevering despite a long string of wet weekends. Ridvan Bakery and an aromatherapy vendor were joining that week, and George Schroeter, chef and owner of the River Street Cafe next door, would give a free cooking demonstration emphasizing fresh ingredients on Aug. 26. The market was held Saturdays at the Troy city dock and marina at 433 River St. (The rest of the column covered unrelated food fundraisers.)
