The Times Union reported that Capital Region farmers markets drew more shoppers during the summer 2026 cyclospora outbreak as people turned to local produce. Steve Ridler said TWFM was even busier than usual, with vendors growing or bringing more and prepared-food, meat and bread sellers also selling out; several TWFM farmers and a Troy shopper were quoted.

“I think there are people coming to markets now because they sort of want to get the healthier stuff, and then they’re exploring around and buying more of everything.”

— Steve Ridler, market manager, in the Times Union
