The market was in early talks with developer David Bryce about creating a year-round indoor market place in a retrofitted Troy Atrium: 20 to 25 flexible booths along a new first-floor corridor, with its own entrance on Broadway. The outdoor market on River Street and Monument Square would continue, and the market was also negotiating a five-year “rolling” lease for the Atrium in place of its annual winter lease. No timeline had been set.
The story tied the idea to a fall 2018 assessment by the consultant Project for Public Spaces, which held public and vendor workshops, encouraged the market not to change dramatically, and suggested an affordable, flexible indoor space. It also recapped the market’s history, from a handful of vendors in a parking lot in 2000 to nearly 100 vendors and as many as 20,000 visitors on peak Saturdays.
“The farmers’ market was and still is a catalyst for revitalization in downtown Troy.”
— David Bryce, owner of the Troy Atrium, in Spotlight News
