In this Food Diary, Hudson Mohawk Magazine’s Amy Halloran talked with P. Thomas Carroll about how the market began: a regional farmers market task force formed in 1998, and Troy’s visitor center staff lobbied it to choose Troy, including with a lunch on the deck at Brown’s. The first market was held on “a windy Saturday, May 20, 2000.”

“As everybody now knows, it was a smash hit from day one,” Carroll said. He ended with a warning that it is now so popular it risks Yogi Berra’s line: “nobody goes there anymore because it’s too crowded.”
