The Record reported that the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market had launched its fifth season on Troy’s historic waterfront and, since its founding in 1999, had grown from five vendors to more than 50, with a waiting list of producers from surrounding counties. Vendors sold their own fresh produce, eggs, cheese, meats, breads, herbs and handcrafted items, and the outdoor market ran every Saturday through October, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Hedley Park Place parking lot on River Street, one block north of the Green Island Bridge. That Saturday’s lineup included an impromptu cooking demonstration by chef Paul Parker of Chez Sophie Bistro using foods from the market, vegan and vegetarian dishes from personal chef Lori Doyle for the Capital District Community Gardens, children’s activities from the Susan Odell Taylor School, an American Diabetes Association health and wellness exhibit, fair-trade coffee from Guatemalan Juanana Coffee, a book sale by the Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County and music by Shaker Creek.
