Cyclospora outbreak boosts local farm customers (Spectrum News 1)

This story by Madyson Diaz aired on Spectrum News 1 on July 18, 2026.

With a national cyclospora outbreak in the news, Spectrum News 1 came to the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market to ask farmers and shoppers about produce safety. Ian Nichols of Meltwater Farm said turnout had been strong, and that shoppers value being able to talk with growers and hear how their food is raised.

Corrine Hansch of Lovin' Mama Farm explained that freshly picked, organically grown produce travels a short distance and keeps longer, and several customers said they now buy their greens at the market because they know where it comes from.
