Chris Churchill called the Troy Atrium a 1970s urban-renewal “terrible mistake” whose public courtyard is lifeless except on winter Saturdays, when TWFM fills it. He reported that the market, founded in 2000 and buoyed by its growth, was seriously considering a permanent home, had hired the Project for Public Spaces and was inviting the public to a workshop at the Franklin Plaza Ballroom. Churchill weighed 1 Monument Square against the Atrium, suggesting an indoor-outdoor market could open up the building’s blank facades, and noted that any answer was certain to provoke some displeasure among shoppers attached to the market.
“We’re open to all suggestions and possibilities.”
