As part of her series Dear World, Hudson Mohawk Magazine’s Lavender talked with vendors at the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market and with Market Manager Steve Ridler about what goes into running it.

Ridler described laying out the market with a measuring wheel, tape and chalk, thinking about which vendors sit next to each other and how shoppers move through, and adjusting week to week. “There’s a lot of thinking that goes in to make it a good experience for everybody,” he said. He also said farmers markets let farmers sell without a middleman and bring fresh produce to a city that might not otherwise have it.
