Troy Farmers Market Back on Streets May 7

Street Festival Vibe Returning to Famous Urban Setting

TROY, N.Y. (3/31/22) — The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market (TWFM) will be returning to Monument Square and surrounding streets starting Saturday May 7.

“For the past two years, I haven’t been able to go anywhere in Troy without someone asking me ‘When will the market be back on the streets?’” said Market Manager Steve Ridler. “Now I can finally make people very happy by telling them we will be back on the streets this Spring!”

In order to comply with COVID-19 safety mandates, the farmers market moved its outdoor location to Troy’s Riverfront Park for the past two summers. This season, as restrictions have been lifted, the market is able to return safely to its pre-pandemic festival atmosphere with about 100 hundred farmers and fresh food vendors along several city blocks.

“One thing we heard loud and clear from downtown Troy’s business owners and residents is that our farmers market is essential to the identity of this city,” Ridler said. “We have one of the best urban settings of any farmers market in the country, and we are excited for you to visit and enjoy Troy.”

This year, the market will feature new vendors, the return of the Makers Market, live music, prepared food, expanded eating areas and community tables. Once again, well-behaved dogs are permitted in the market area.

The market is every Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Parking

As in previous years, all streets included in the Farmers Market permit area will be posted “No Parking” from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays during the months of May through October.

There are free parking facilities around the market, including: the State Street Parking Garage (at State and River streets); Riverfront Park; the Green Island Bridge parking lots; and the Fifth Ave Garage (between Broadway and State).

Parking on the street is free.

Indoor Market in Atrium Through April

The indoor farmers market, featuring more than 75 farmers and fresh food vendors, continues every Saturday in April from 9 a.m to 2 p.m in the Troy Atrium.

About the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market

The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market is one of the most popular attractions in the Capital Region.

From May through October, the market transforms the heart of downtown Troy into an open-air street festival that could easily pass for a scene in Europe. On the busiest days, as many as 15,000 people visit the market to shop for fresh local produce, meats, seafood, prepared foods and handmade crafts. Couples, families, college students, and neighborhood regulars all mingle in Monument Square, and up and down River and 2nd St, milling around between the tents, sidewalk tables, and music stages.

Many stay to socialize and explore downtown's many charming shops and vibrant eateries. The market moves inside from November through April.

Today, the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market routinely receives "Best of" accolades by regional media and in reader polls. In 2019, the market earned the American Farmland Trust's People's Choice award for Number 1 farmers market in the nation.
