Composting

How Do I Compost?

Composting at the market is easy! collect your food scraps in a bag or container during the week, and bring them to our community compost drop-off, right in Monument Square, across from Pika’s Farm Table. At the end of each market day, your food scraps are collected by Troy Zero Waste and transformed into high-quality compost. (In the Winter (Nov-Apr), composting drop bins are located at the 4th St entrance of the Atrium).

Why Compost?

When food waste ends up in landfills, it emits methane, a greenhouse gas 26 times more potent than carbon dioxide. When composted instead, it adds nutrients and stability to the soil, encouraging plant growth, water retention, and carbon sequestration. Thanks for helping keep Troy green!
