Three weeks after the COVID-19 pandemic shut the market down, CBS6 Albany reported on how its vendors kept selling online and on their farms. Cornell Farms in Johnsonville opened its farm stand on Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to sell its own products along with those of other market vendors: produce, dairy, meats and baked goods. Many vendors took pickup orders by phone or on their own websites, and some, like Laughing Earth Farm in Cropseyville, delivered. Zack Metzger of Laughing Earth Farm, president of the Troy Farmers Market, described the farm’s contact-free pickup and cleaning routine. Market manager Steve Ridler said this let people buy local groceries without going into a crowded supermarket, and that the market was working with city and county officials on when it could reopen.

“This is the farmers that are trying to make a living. This is keeping money coming in to them.”

— Steve Ridler, market manager, to CBS6 Albany
