New Sunday Marketplace In Lansingburgh Opens in Partnership With Troy Farmers Market

Make It Up State partners to bring socially distanced Handmade Goods and Food Marketplace to former Price Chopper in Lansingburgh

Troy, NY (02/02/21) —Just in time for Valentine’s Day shopping, a new marketplace will open in Troy, N.Y.  Starting this Sunday, Feb. 7 and running every Sunday through March 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, the newly-launched business development organization Make It Up State will host The Marketplace in partnership with the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market to showcase local handmade goods and food.

“Some vendors are well-known in the local market community while others are new to the scene,” said Erin Pihlaja, co-owner and co-founder of Make It Up State and former executive director of the Downtown Troy BID. “Puckers Pickles, Bard and Baker Board Game Cafe, Good Day Honey, Collar City Candle, Saratoga Peanut Butter Company, Rare Form Brewing…we’ve got a lot of well known brands. And on the newer side we’ve got fine artists, handcrafted medicinal herbs, dried floral arrangements, and someone who self describes as ‘pop-culture inspired and subversive embroidery and cross stitch.’ It sounds cliche but there is something for everyone.”

The vendor lineup already includes more than 50 local artisans and food vendors, which will vary each week to keep things fresh. Organizers will continue to review vendor applications.

“We are so pleased by the turnout and excited by the quality of vendors who applied,” Pihlaja said. “I love to see the variety represented in this marketplace.”

Look for vendor highlights on the Make It Up State social media channels. There will be weekly giveaways to watch out for. And organizers plan to offer a virtual market in the future. Pihlaja noted that shoppers can take advantage of food trucks parked outside along the walkway of the building and Make It Up State will also offer curbside pickup for those who wish to remain outside.

Held in the former Price Chopper in Lansingburgh (865 2nd Avenue, Troy NY), currently the winter home of the Saturday Troy Waterfront Farmers Market, the event will follow all of the COVID safety procedures and regulations that the farmers market has enacted since the beginning of New York On Pause, including required wearing of masks by all in attendance, socially distanced shopping and vending, and regulated occupancy.

“Partnering with the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market is very exciting because they have over 20 years of experience running a high-quality event, and now we get to introduce new vendors who create goods that cannot be found anywhere else,” said Make It Up State co-owner and co-founder Lynette Tarrats, a local realtor, real estate re-developer and entrepreneur, with a deep portfolio of business operations and management experience. “Being in a space that is also filled with original art, in a safely run environment—this is a huge win for both local customers, and local artisans and other small businesses.”

To bring life back to the abandoned grocery store building, the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market has launched The Mural Project, that will feature more than two dozen murals created by local artists. Pop in every week, you might even catch a mural artist creating a piece during The Marketplace.

“Our customers and vendors are really enjoying the Lansingburgh location. There’s plenty of parking and good access,” said Steve Ridler, manager of the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market. “We’re delighted to help expand market offerings in Lansingburgh to another day, bringing a great mix of upstate makers into our space.”
